Spring is here, and summer is coming. With a new season, there’s a tendency to switch things up; the warmer weather invites more entertaining. Change your everyday look with pillows. Spring is here and summer is coming!
The two Chinoiserie pillows featured in the cover photo are modern-day examples of an art that originated in the beginning of the 17th century in Europe. The word derives from “chinois,” which is French for “Chinese.” At the time, English and Italian designers and craftsmen sought to imitate the fanciful, decorative style of Chinese arts, silk, and lacquerware. Today, there are a variety of colorways that offer a chic, modern twist. Pillows were homemade with fabric from Walmart. Keep your eyes open, because great style is everywhere!

Stripe it.

Both of these pillows were made to order! The needlepoint pillow took me forever to craft; Stephanie Feltner’s mother finished it in grand style. The yellow pillow is from Target. Mixing colors and textures gives any room more depth, and thus, more interest.
Hop to it.

Frogs are a non-threatening amphibian; they are more attractive that their sister, the toad. The beige background is neutral so it goes with anything. We love needlepoint, an 18th century craft that is 21st century stylish.
Pick Faux Fruit Fabric. (Say that a dozen times in succession.)

We love old fashioned velvet, but it is tough to keep clean. There are fabrics available (like the one above) that have a velvet feel but are machine washable. Add a little glam to your decor with Joann Fabrics!

The Kentucky Derby is a week away, and the the Virginia Horse Capital (Middleburg) is only miles away, so why not honor both with your own horse race? We found this pillow at a favorite online source Pomegranate.
