“You’re off to great places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, So get on your way!”
— Dr. Seuss
When a new year begins, I often feel like these kooky zebras. Where to start?
The culimination of the Twelve Days of Christmas marks the season’s official end. Twelfth night, as it is known, was celebrated In colonial America by leaving up a Christmas wreath on the front door of each home. When finally taken down any edible portions would be consumed with the other foods of the feast.
Since Twelfth Night or King Day (as it is sometimes called) has passed, I know the time has come to move on; I have begun the process of putting away my Christmas treasures. Their company has so many good memories, so I always feel a bit sad to store them, but the promise of a fresh new start in the new year spurs me on.
Just imagine, it is 2023, and some of our greatest days have not even happened yet! Read on for some tips.
Soldier on.

I began collecting nutcrackers over 40 years ago; Stephanie Carper Feltner gave me one of my first (featured in this photo). I keep a few out to enjoy year round, but I love the determined looks of their painted faces!
Winter beauty.

Deborah Carper gave me this beautiful wreath years ago; it is perfect for the holidays and beyond with the pine cones dripping with artificial snow. I put this up right after Thanksgiving and keep it up until March! Look for decorations that you can use for multiple seasons; this will lessen the work of changing things out.
Pillow Talk.

The Father Christmas pillow is kept out until March, the toile/reindeer pillow until February, but the cute Rudolph pillow is put away right after Christmas! By gradually weeding out the holiday decor, your house will look as if it is evolving.
‘Til next year.

I can’t wait to see you again!
