“Ring out the old, ring in the new. Ring, happy bells, across the snow: The year is going, let him go; Ring out the false, ring in the new.” — Alfred, Lord Tennyson
Ah, who better to ring out the year with than Lord Tennyson? I always find New Year’s Eve a bit of a contradiction; each December we celebrate an ending while waiting for the clock to strike midnight. A new year is welcomed along with the hope offered by a new beginning.
Various countries have their own traditions and celebrations, but there are also common ways to celebrate this special occasion. For southerners, food and libations play a crucial role. Think black-eyed peas and stewed tomates.
How will you celebrate? We have thoughts on giving the new year a grand welcome!
Send a card.

In recent years, instead of Christmas cards, I send a New Year’s card. I then have more time to write a newsy note. Hallmark via Dollar Tree has some great options!
Read a book.

I love these two annual anthologies! Thank goodness Santa found me in Winchester. Or, at least, he read my letter!
Keep in touch.

Who doesn’t love receiving a hand written note? Resolve to write more!
Keep a journal.

You will enjoy reading about 2023 in 2033! There are lots of cute journals to choose from – I especially like the “girl power” journal.
Kiss today goodbye.

Kiss today goodbye,
The sweetness and the sorrow.
Wish me luck, the same to you . . .
I have always loved the song, “What I did for Love” from the Broadway Musical, A Chorus Line. It is not a typical New Year’s song, but it could be.
Happy New Years, y’all!
