“What is Christmas? It is tenderness for the past. Courage for the present. Hope for the future.” — Agnes M. Pahro
Christmas is almost here! Since everyone is so busy during the holiday season, I created an annual breakfast for my friends. We gather for a morning nibble on a Saturday during the middle of December before I leave for Winchester. I serve the same menu every year: quiche (store bought), gingerbread and a cranberry-apple conserve. Everyone assembles at about 9:30 a.m. and the fun begins. The big payoff for me is that I get to celebrate with my Richmond friends.
Create your own annual event with these tips.
Introduce a theme.

A good, consistent theme will unite all elements of the event. Think Disney. Since all of the guests at my event are women, I named my event The Doe Breakfast. Doe a deer, a female deer… I work to carry the theme out in all decorations – a little kitsch at Christmas makes the surroundings fun.
Give a favor.

Who doesn’t love a pre-Christmas gift? This year, I found the perfect cocktail napkins at Kimberly’s! I packaged them in cute bags from Target topped with a decorative flocked reindeer.
Deck the halls.

Every inch of my small home gets the holiday touch. This is the time of year to dazzle!
Reuse the table.

Later that evening, I reset the table for a post-nutcracker event with two of my favorite fawns.
Capture the moment.

Joy. The ultimate goal.
