“To her, the name of father was another name for love.” — Fanny Fern
Can you believe that it is June? We will celebrate fathers this month. Father’s Day was inaugurated in the United States in the early 20th century to complement Mother’s Day in celebrating fathers, fathering, and fatherhood. Father’s Day was founded in Spokane, Washington at the YMCA in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd, who was born in Arkansas.
How will you honor your dad? We have a variety of different ideas on how to make the day special. Read on.
Celebrate the big cheese.

Who is your big cheese? We thought this cheese board was a perfect Father’s Day gift. The Feltner Group’s fathers are big cheese lovers, plus we couldn’t resist paring the platter with napkins of the “President’s House” in 1848. President Polk was the nation’s big cheese, and the napkins’ image (based on a painting) is considered the best early view of the White House in existence.
Give a lasting gift.

Washington is less than an hour away, with over 200 years waiting for you to explore. Give the gift of a subscription; we love The White House Historical Association. Founded in 1961 as a charitable, non-partisan organization, its mission is to enhance understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of the historic White House. Income from the sale of association products is used to fund the acquisition of historic furnishings and artwork for the permanent White House Collection, to assist in the preservation of public rooms, and to further its educational mission. In addition to giving back, the association will give you the most recent annual White House Christmas ornament!
Share a memory.

Share a memory with your father. Sort through your picture box, and find one that would make the day! We like this one of the Carper girls; Stephanie Carper Feltner is the bride on the left!
