Happy Bloom, dear readers! We hope you are enjoying all of the many activities, beginning with the Wine Fest!. It is exciting that this year three popular events will resume — the Firefighters Parade, Grand Feature Parade and Realty ONE Group Old Towne Queen’s Ball; Covid-19 may have slowed us down, but not for long. While everyone is celebrating, we are here to get you ready for post-Bloom fun.
We are big readers, and even though we have been at home for several years, we could still explore the world through books. Before you knew it, there were lots of places we had traveled, with a few souvenirs picked up along the way.
The novels featured above explore Hadley Hemmingway’s magical early years of marriage in Paris, musings on Mrs. Astor’s life before the Titanic’s sinking, and the code sisters at Bletchley Park with Prince Philip playing a cameo role. History mingled with good story telling, and a few famous names, kept us reading. We highly recommend all three books.

What’s old is new.
Nancy Astor and Nancy Lancaster were aunt and niece, respectively. Their lives began as two Virginia girls with big dreams; they ended up living the life of English aristocrats. Now, two descendants have written a book that offers entertaining tips and recipes from their lives in Virginia and England, with international history sprinkled in.
Pretty. Practical. Peonies!
Peonies will soon be in bloom, and we can hardly wait! While perusing the latest issue of Flower Magazine, we saw an article about melamine salad plates with a single peony in the middle. Of course, we had to have some! They are divine and keep us focused on summer.
Design language.
You might not be able to interpret the language, but you can still enjoy the design! Most bookstores now have foreign language design magazines; try one out for fun. We love those pink chairs!
