“Summer Afternoon – Summer Afternoon; To me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.” — Henry James
Once July 4th is over, I feel like summer is at its height. All of the celebrations have their genesis in the early days of the Republic. Historical sources say that George Washington gave his soldiers double rations of rum on July 4, 1778. Nowadays most adults celebrate Independence Day with beer and patriotic cocktails instead.
What says “summer” to you? Taffy and the original Cracker Jack remind me of days spent at the beach and river. Small concession stands sold these and other treats to kiddos for a small piece of change.
And while we are now on the downside of summer fun, there is still time left to entertain in small and large ways. We are aways inspired by our flag’s bright colors: red, white and blue! Here’s some tips on carrying out the theme.
Red. White. Boats!
The mix of color and theme creates an inviting aesthetic to enjoy the summer breezes. The boat material looks like a architectural drawing, while the blue and white material gives the sense of a water backdrop. We used the fabric on cushions and pillows for black rod iron patio chairs.
You don’t have to be a sailor to appreciate and enjoy the sophistication of a nautical theme. We love the color combination and china pattern. Grilled chicken with veggies would tast extra special when served on this festive combination. Ahoy, mates!
