“We do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate.” — Thomas Jefferson
Have you voted yet? Early voting is the new normal in America this political season. In the age of a pandemic, voting now offers you the opportunity to (mostly) avoid long lines and crowds. For Virginia residents, the last day to vote early is Saturday. Plan your vote! Once you have cast your ballot, plan a party to celebrate our great country. As per usual, we have lots of suggestions.
Support your party.

No matter your party affiliation, we can all agree on a patriotic party on Election Night! I am planning a patio event with a roaring firepit and homemade soup. And while it will be different, the decor and food and guests will match the historic moment.
Wave the flag.

Since the party is in the evening and outside, I have nixed the idea of flowers as a centerpiece. Instead I have coralled a half dozen flags that will move with the wind thoughout the evening.
Set the table.

The table cloth and napkins were made by Stephanie Feltner’s mom, Deborah Carper. She is the family arbiter of good taste and good style. I added one old school element with the Blue Willow cup and saucer. My great-grandfather was a Virginia state senator; this was his every day china. I always like a touch of the past, especially on Election Night!
But, whatever you do, please VOTE!
