“Education is the key to unlocking the word, the passport to freedom.” — Oprah Winfrey
The new school year is here. It doesn’t look anything like a normal year. You don’t see yellow buses hurridly traveling the streets; most of the supply bins at stores are still full. Shopping for back-to-school clothes has been replaced with surfing the Internet for electronics. Many school systems have gone all virtual; others, like Frederick County, have a hybrid model in place. We can do this.
In addition to blogging for The Feltner Group, I am a high school English teacher. I have spent the summer creating an inspiring home space where I can teach “Romeo and Juliet” and the elements of good writing. Whether you are a teacher or parent or student, you can do the same.
Design a inviting space.
I turned a spare room in to a home office. I pushed the desk against the window and added essential elements such as a printer, good light and a sturdy chair. My desk is carefully edited to include a minimum of distractions. For a crisp new look, I purchased the white curtains at Target.
I bought a cube storage unit from Target in the spring. The bins hold stationery, office supplies and extra cords. Textbooks and reference materials are now readily available.
What gives you that extra nudge to keep going? For me, it will always be books. My dad made the bookcase over 50 years ago to house my many toombs and growing Barbie collection. I painted it black and added books from my overflow collection. I look at them everyday; I am reminded of father’s love of good reading.
We are here. Let us know if we can help.
