“Let them eat cake!” — Marie-Antoinette
We continue our #AtHome series by focusing on birthday celebrations. Life is lived one day at a time, so it is important to be creative and recognize each moment. Do you have a family or friend birthday coming up? We have a plan for celebrating a special child’s day but it could be modified for adults as well.
Create a birthday memory.
Social distancing and celebrations are the antithesis of each other. The Feltner Group has you covered. Invite the neighborhood to serenade the birthday boy/girl. Recently, we tried this idea and it was a huge success. We made a crown of construction paper for the “birthday queen” and she stood at the center of the road. Neighbors (some with musical instruments) gathered and stood six feet apart. At the appointed hour, everyone began to sing. It was meaningful and spirited and memorable. Try it!
We are big Barbie fans at The Feltner Group; she has a lot of style in her many residences. If kids come to your sing fest, make certain you have a small take home treat for them. Recently, we found a dearth of Barbie appropriate pool furniture at the Dollar Tree. Purchase a hot pink chaise for Barbie (or Ken!). These plastic finds are waterproof and colorful and inexpensive.
Cupcakes for the win.
Who doesn’t love a birthday cake? Since we are still fighting the coronavirus, make cupcakes instead of a cake. There is less contact and each person has their own little cake. Look for cute toppers to make each one special. If you have the sing-a-long mentioned above, cupcakes could be placed in small plastic bags and served to guests on a platter. Paging the Dollar Tree!
