“There’s no place like home.” — Dorothy from THE WIZARD OF OZ
Home is where we are safe. As the novel coronavirus spreads across our region, our state and our country, the best guidance is to stay home. You can still celebrate the hope of spring and the glory of Easter while social distancing. Let’s get creative.
Support local businesses.
Shop local. Over half of Americans are employed by small businesses. Many restaurants and shops in our region are shut down; they need our help. Look for businesses that offer curbside service and online sourcing. Kimberly’s, the area’s prominent gift and clothing emporium, will deliver your purchases to your car. I bet they have a lot of keepsake rabbits longing for a home.
Reach out. Is there someone in your neighborhood who is alone? Now is the time to take care of ourselves and each other. You can order your family’s Easter fare online from many local grocery stores. Do you have a neighbor that is newly unemployed? Increase your order to two family dinners.
Keep your Easter traditions.
Worship. Check out your church’s website to find out about services through Zoom or Facebook Live. You can join with others in celebrating this special season.
Easter Baskets. The bunny can still make a visit. Include Easter essentials on your online grocery list. Or, donate the money you would normally spend on chocolate bunnies to the local foodbank. They are overwhelmed; the Easter Bunny would understand (and approve!).
Read. Don’t forget Flopsy, Mopsy and Peter Cottontail! Use the various online tools to read favorite Easter stories to children. Social distancing can still be meaningful.
